Starfield ship duplication glitch – make infinite money after patch 1.7.33

Duplicating a ship is very straightforward, but it requires some legwork to make sure it’s worth doing. Ship duplication works both on PC and Xbox consoles, but you need to use a controller to pull it off. It won’t work with a keyboard.

The way you use the glitch to make money requires you to have at least two ships in your inventory, ideally one big high-value ship and a small cheap one that you got for free, as the latter will disappear in the process.

You can also steal ships big and small by boarding them and taking out their crew. If you’ve already played around with the shipbuilder and have built a large expensive vessel you’d love to duplicate, you only need to find an expendable ship to pull off this very easy trick.

Once you have the ships you want to use, land on any planet that has a ship technician who can modify your ships. The first one you encounter in the game is at the New Atlantis spaceport.

Talk with the technician and select the option to view and modify ships. Navigate to the ship you want to duplicate and then press LB (or RB) and X simultaneously on your controller. You need to press the two buttons exactly at the same time, or it won’t work. Keyboard input won’t work either. Be warned that duplication will erase the ship immediately to the left (or right) of the one you’re duplicating, so make sure it’s a ship you won’t be missing.

Pressing the two buttons correctly will open the build menu for the ship you’re duplicating, and you have to make just one small modification, such as removing a small component or adding a cheap one. Then press B to exit edit mode and confirm the change.

If everything goes well, you will have a duplicate of your ship either to the left or right of the original one, with the only difference between the two being the minor change you just made. Depending on which bumper button you pressed together with X, the ship that you had to the left or right before duplication will be gone for good.

Next time you look at the list of ships you own, the duplicated ship will appear as unregistered, and you will be prompted to register it for a fee. You must do this first in order to sell the ship or make any modifications or upgrades.

To sell a ship, talk to the technician again, but this time choose the option that lets you see what ships they are selling. From the buy menu, press Y to switch to the ships that you can sell, select the duplicated ship, and press A to sell it. You’ll be prompted to confirm the sale and will get your credits immediately. If the ship you want to sell is not registered, the Sell option won't be available, and there will be a Register option instead. Register the ship first and then sell it.

The money you’ll get from the vendor is significantly less than a ship’s purchase price, and there is a registration fee, but you can still turn a nice profit by duplicating a very valuable ship and replacing a small one you stole or got for nothing.
