Everything you need to know about the Venusaur seven-star Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The February 2024 Pokémon Presents on Pokémon Day announced three new seven-star Tera Raids coming to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and running over the next three weeks. Featuring all of the Kantonian starters, Venusaur with the Ground Tera type will be the first target of these difficult raids. 

Here’s everything you need to catch your own Mighty Venusaur.

When does the Venusaur raid start?

The Mighty Venusaur will be available for one week, which is longer than most seven-star Tera Raid events.

Here is when you can catch your own Venusaur:

  • Wednesday, February 28, 2024, until Tuesday, March 5, 2024

7-Star Tera Raid Venusaur stats, moves, and ability – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Like all other Tera Raid battles, Venusaur comes with its hidden ability. Chlorophyll doubles Venusaur’s speed in sun, which is why it also uses the move Sunny Day as soon as the battle starts. It follows this up with Growth, which sharply boosts both attacking stats in sun and then uses Petal Blizzard before the fight truly begins.

The stat boost glitch alongside Amnesia means that Venusaur is almost constantly at +6 Special Defense, so you will require a physical attacker to take it down. Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, and Earth Power provide good but not perfect coverage so there are a number of weaknesses that you can exploit.

  • Item – None
  • Tera type – Ground
  • Move set – Sunny Day, Growth, Petal Blizzard, Amnesia, Sludge Bomb, Giga Drain, Earth Power

Best counters for Venusaur – Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

It is almost impossible to bring special attackers into this fight thanks to Amnesia, but there are a number of Pokémon that counter Venusaur as long as they are run physically.

Gyarados

Pokémon Gyarados.

Use a few Muddy Waters to drop Venusaur’s Accuracy before it wipes your stat changes, and then you are ready to set up with Dragon Dance and Moxie. If you knock out your AI allies in battle, Moxie will boost your attack, while the Shell Bell allows you to recover HP. This is a great combination, and with Rain Dance to overwrite the sun, Waterfall will do massive amounts of damage once Gyarados is set up.

  • Move set – Rain Dance, Dragon Dance, Muddy Water, Waterfall

Walking Wake

Pokémon Walking Wake.

Usually a special attacker, you will want to build Walking Wake as a physical attacker for this raid. While Walking Wake is powered up by the sun, you will need to use Rain Dance to instead take advantage of its physical attacks. You can leave the sun up, though, boosting your Special Defense while you reduce damage with Snarl, and set up with Dragon Dance, before hitting Venusaur hard.

  • Item – Shell Bell
  • Tera type – Water
  • Move set – Rain Dance, Dragon Dance, Snarl, Waterfall

Weezing

Weezing - Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Weezing won’t deal a lot of damage, but it is a great Pokémon to support others. Clear Smog will remove Venusaur’s Growth and Amnesia boosts, and if you plan on using a special attacker, Taunt and Acid Spray can prevent Amnesia and then lower Special Defense. Rain Dance will clear the weather, and help support your attackers.

  • Nature – Careful
  • Ability – Levitate
  • Item – Leftovers
  • Tera type – Poison
  • Move set – Clear Smog, Rain Dance, Taunt, Acid Spray

Hisuian Goodra

This Goodra is not in the game, but it’s a fun choice as with this set, Venusaur can literally not deal damage to it. It has access to a lot of good supportive moves, including Muddy Water to drop accuracy, Rain Dance to change the weather, Dragon Cheer to boost partners’ Critical Hit Ratio, and Acid Spray to drop Amnesia.

  • Nature – Careful
  • Ability – Sap Sipper
  • Item – Air Balloon
  • Tera type – Steel
  • Move set – Rain Dance, Dragon Cheer, Muddy Water, Acid Spray
