Granblue Fantasy Relink region locked: how to solve Steam multiplayer issues
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a short but incredibly sweet JRPG with a surprisingly meaty Monster Hunter-like endgame. Like any good Monster Hunter inspired game, it offers co-op gameplay, but Steam players have noticed a pretty serious issue: multiplayer seems to be region locked.
The Steam Community Discussions for Granblue Fantasy: Relink has players reporting that they can’t play with their friends that are in different regions. The discussion is opened with: “My friend is on USW and I'm in Asia... Can we play together? Or are you strictly locked to playing with people within your own region?”
People quickly start chiming in with similars reports: “I tried playing with my EU friend and can't connect to him so it seems region locked.”
And again: “I'm in OCE and i can't join my friend in the US.”
Luckily there does seem to be a solution, thanks to other reports from players in that thread, and we’re breaking down the steps you need to take below.
Changing Steam download region – GBR region locked
The first reported solution is to change your Steam download region. You can do this by following the steps listed on Steam Support:
- Start Steam.
- Go to Steam > Settings > Downloads.
- Under "Download region", ensure you and your multiplayer party are using the same download region.
This may require a game re-download, but as long as you and your friends are using the same download region, you should be able to play together.
Using a VPN to play multiplayer – GBR region locked
If you use a high-speed VPN and ensure that you and your multiplayer party are all using the same region, you should be able to play without concern. A high-speed VPN suitable for gaming will likely require a paid subscription, and we don’t feel confident in suggesting a specific service, but if changing your download region doesn’t help, then this will be your alternative.
