Genshin Impact Ningguang build and materials guide
Give Liyue’s richest and most cunning oligarch the 5-Star treatment she deserves with the best Genshin Impact Ningguang build and stay one step ahead of your enemies. Ningguang is a solid Main DPS character dealing Geo Damage and wielding a catalyst, though she’s recently found a new purpose in acting as a Sub DPS on teams featuring Navia.
Her Elemental Skill, Jade Screen, lets her create a protective screen in front of her that catches incoming projectiles and deals Geo Damage around it when being created. Its strength is based on her maximum HP. One of her Passive Skills boosts the Geo Damage of any character who passes through the Jade Screen, giving her a neat little support ability as well.
Ningguang’s Elemental Burst, Starshatter, consists of a massive attack of homing missiles that deal Geo Damage to all targets. If the Jade Screen is on the field while Starshatter is cast, it will be consumed to add more projectives to the attack.
Best Ningguang weapons – Genshin Impact
Ningguang mostly relies on Normal Attacks and her Elemental Burst to deal damage with the latter being even more important when she’s used as a Sub DPS as she won’t be on the field quite as long as otherwise. As a catalyst wielder, any of her attacks will deal Elemental Damage, so a weapon like Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds with its stacking Elemental Damage buffs would be a fine choice.
Here are the best weapons for Ningguang in Genshin Impact:
- Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds (5-star catalyst)
- Kagura’s Verity (5-star catalyst)
- Skyward Atlas (5-star catalyst)
- Solar Pearl (4-star catalyst)
Best Ningguang artifacts – Genshin Impact
To maximize the amount of damage Ningguang can do while she’s on the field, you can equip her with a full set of Nighttime Whispers in the Echoing Woods. It will provide a +18% Attack bonus, which strengthens Ningguang’s offense, and grants her a 20% Geo Damage bonus for ten seconds after she uses her Elemental Skill. Furthermore, while under a shield created by Crystallize, this effect increases by 150% – making it the perfect time window to unleash that Elemental Burst.
You should get the following stat distribution on Ningguang’s artifact set:
- Flower: HP (main stat), Critical Hit Damage, Critical Hit Rate, Attack %, Energy Recharge (secondary stats)
- Plume: Attack (main stat), Critical Hit Damage, Critical Hit Rate, Attack %, Energy Recharge (secondary stats)
- Sands: Attack % (main stat), Critical Hit Damage, Critical Hit Rate, Attack, Energy Recharge (secondary stats)
- Goblet: Geo Damage % (main stat), Critical Hit Damage, Critical Hit Rate, Attack %, Energy Recharge (secondary stats)
- Circlet: Critical Hit Damage or Critical Hit Rate (main stat), Critical Hit Damage or Critical Hit Rate, Energy Recharge, Attack %, Attack (secondary stats)
Best Ningguang teams – Genshin Impact
Ningguang is primarily a Main DPS and the star of the show, but as mentioned above the release of Navia has given her a second niche to shine in, which is that of a Sub DPS.
This Navia team is all about triggering Crystallize reactions to fill up her Elemental Skill’s ammunition and deal out as much damage as possible in the process. Xiangling and Bennett provide the necessary Pyro ingredients on top of contributing buffs and healing. In an ideal world you’d add Zhongli into the mix for shields and elemental resistance shredding, but not everyone’s account is blessed with the Geo Archon. His deputy, Ningguang, doesn’t do a shabby job in his stead, though: Her Jade Screen can buff Navia’s damage, she can create the Geo Resonance with her, and her own damage output while on the field to trigger Crystallize is pretty solid.
- Ningguang (Main DPS), Xiangling (Sub DPS), Albedo (Sub DPS), Bennett (Support)
A team with Ningguang as Main DPS doesn’t actually look very different. Xiangling and Bennett fulfill the same roles as before, with Albedo coming in to boost her damage with his abilities. As his Elemental Skill has nearly 100% uptime, he can provide very consistent Geo Damage from off-field.
Ningguang ascension materials – Genshin Impact
You’ll want to quickly raise Ningguang’s level when you finally pull her, which means that you’ll need to farm her ascension materials. You’ll also require some material to upgrade her talents.
Here’s what you need to get Ningguang to level 90:
- Prithiva Topaz Sliver x1
- Prithiva Topaz Fragment x9
- Prithiva Topaz Chunk x9
- Prithiva Topaz Gemstone x6
- Recruit’s Insignia x18
- Sergeant’s Insignia x30

Prithiva Topaz can be obtained from any Geo-affiliated boss on the world map, such as the Geo Hypostasis in Liyue, which you’ll have to defeat anyways to obtain Basalt Pillars. Just the kind of efficient operation Ningguang would appreciate! Insignia are a drop from Fatui agents you’ll find anywhere in Teyvat.
Glaze Lilies can be found around the government buildings on the upper terrace of Liyue Harbor as well as on the terrace fields of Qingce Village. The best way to earn more Mora in the game is to farm golden Ley Line Blossoms.
Here’s what you need to upgrade all of Ningguang’s talents to their maximum level:
- Recruit’s Insignia x18
- Sergeant’s Insignia x66
- Lieutenant’s Insignia x93

Spirit Locket of Boreas is a boss item only dropped by the Wolf of the North, so you’ll need to confront that monster on the territory of Mondstadt again and again.
Crowns of Insight are a rare item gained from time-limited events or regional reward mechanics like the Tree of Dreams in Sumeru, the Grand Narukami Shrine in Inazuma, or the Fountain of Lucine in Fontaine.
