Expeditions: A MudRunner Game tips and tricks for beginners

Expeditions is a complex game, but the menu and UI are your friends. As you prepare for an expedition, the game will give you advice, including the most suitable vehicle for the mission. Picking the best option between Off-road and Scout vehicles is key, as this can make traversal much more comfortable.

Tire pressure is one of Expeditions’ biggest additions. For the first time you can adjust pressure for some advantages along the way. The most important one is the ability to climb over terrain more easily and have a much better grip, regardless of the type of surface. Just be careful about keeping them too flat or overinflated for too long, as this could damage the vehicle.

All three Expeditions maps are full of bodies of water, and these can hold bitter traps. Always check if the water is too deep before diving in. Your new Hydro-Monitoring system is very useful in this respect: when you see green and orange markers, you can take the risk. Otherwise, you should really desist.

Rush it, and you’re doing it wrong. In most cases, when you get too confident, you’re sure to fail. There are ways to fix this, but they’re costly. You don’t want to put your entire mission at risk just because you got carried away. Save it for a better checkpoint system, at least.

Expeditions’ in-game map isn’t particularly good or up to SnowRunner’s level, especially that zoom level. However, it’s still crucial that you plan your movements carefully. Make sure to analyze the map and the landscape before diving into unknown terrain.

Make sure to refuel at every opportunity after beating your original expedition. Also, consider setting up a few stations so that you never run out of fuel or any other useful resources. It’s a shame when you’re left stranded with no fuel, just one step away from completing a long mission. Similarly, as the game lacks a true open world, it’s nice to wander around the map for as long as possible. Don’t miss out on this joy.

Another addition to the MudRunner series, you can put together a team before setting off for bonuses. For example, equipping the hydrologists means you won’t take any water damage. Don’t forget to add one even when not explicitly required by the mission – doing so will make your life much easier. And of course, you should pick the best partner depending on terrain and mission type.

Don’t forget to fill your inventory and cargo with as many useful items as you can before setting off. Fuel is what you’re most likely going to need in the long run, but carrying over a Jack-Screw is key. The Jack-Screw allows you to get back on your feet again if you tip over – which is very likely to happen.

Night can be tricky, as it significantly lowers visibility – obviously. That means you could hit some very dangerous environmental obstacles without even noticing them. Press the left analogue stick and you’ll be able to skip to daytime for better visibility. Alternatively, switch on the headlights with the right stick, and hope for the best.

With the left stick, you can adjust the zoom level on your truck. If you need some extra accuracy, press Up on the D-pad for a first-person view from inside the truck. Zooming in and out has never been the most comfortable experience in the series (the left stick? Really?), however, you’ll eventually get used to it, and that’s when you’ll find yourself constantly fiddling with it.
