EA Sports FC 24: best formations to win Ultimate Team matches

This is definitely our favorite formation in the EA Sports FC 24 Ultimate Team early game. Three defenders and a CDM (choose them physically strong and with a high defense value) provide us with key defensive protection, which is essential for a game of speed such as Ultimate Team, but without sacrificing fast wingers and creative midfielders. The two forwards guarantee a respectable attacking power, too.

4-2-3-1 is not known for its defensive inclination, but in variant (2), it does surprisingly well in this respect. Two CDMs, two all-out wingers starting from the midfield, and perhaps a slightly more physical CAM - you have everything you need to win, but it’ll be key that you have several quick players in your squad to support the single ST as fast as you can.

Also a variant of 3-5-2, this is a bit more reckless with two CMs and no CDM, basically a solution for those who have a CAM in their squad and don’t really want to give them up (frankly speaking, you should).

4-3-3 is a cult classic, but in this case, we choose variant (2), and if you read this far you can imagine why: the CDM in front of the defense. Again, choose them physically strong and with great defensive value, because with LB, RB, and the two CMs that’ll constantly feel free to move on the offense, and your wingers only focusing on all-out attacking, the two CBs will often need a hand.

Speaking of cult classics, 4-4-2 (2) always does very well on Ultimate Team. Mind you, we would not choose it in Career Mode - it’s just too static. But in UT, where speed is always a factor to be taken into account, the idea of a denser midfield and two blocked CDMs doesn’t displease us at all. And the two-forward setup means you don’t need them to be super-fast as long as they have good shot values, so you can try to score from more considerable distances.

The 3-4-3 is too offensive for our taste but, if you have two CFs you want to deploy behind a more solid striker, this is a viable alternative. Compared to the 3-4-3 above, it allows you to maintain some density through central routes, which at least helps you slow down your opponent’s counterattacks.

Compared to previous games, we found it less attractive, but there was a time when the two CFs were an Ultimate Team cult classic (they might easily return to it in EA Sports FC 24, sooner or later). We’re not big fans of the three aligned midfielders, as you may have guessed, but if you’re looking for an offensive solution that makes for density in the middle of the pitch, keep it in mind.
