Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake announced at The Game Awards 2023
Get ready to shed those tears once more, because Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is getting a remake coming out on February 28, 2024. Announced at The Game Awards 2023, the refreshed version of the adventure game will be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
505 Games, the original publisher of the title, will be publishing this remake as well, although the original developer of the title, Starbreeze Games, won’t be involved. Avantgarden Games is remaking the title instead. 505 Games purchased the IP from the studio in 2015, using it to port Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons to Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch – the original is a PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 title from 2013.
Played from a third-person perspective, this adventure game features a tearjerker of a narrative involving two brothers on a desperate quest to find a cure for their father’s illness. Players have control over both brothers and must move them individually to solve puzzles, allowing them to progress through the levels. The narrative relies heavily on gestures and facial expressions, as all dialog is spoken in a fictional language without any translation.
If that sounds very artsy to you, then you’d be quite correct: Developed in collaboration with Josef Fares, the award-winning film director, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a prime example of video games as art and often cited as such in debates around the topic.
This announcement confirms a leak from the day before The Game Awards happened.
