Baldur’s Gate 3 Lae’zel romance: how to mate with the githyanki warrior in BG3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the talk of the town right now as players are fascinated by the unrivalled freedom that Larian Studios’ new RPG provides. This includes the option to romance and be romanced by pretty much every important character you meet along your 100-hour journey.
One such character is Lae’zel, the githyanki warrior, who is also among the first companions you meet even before escaping from the mind flayer ship, during the game’s prologue. Here’s everything you need to know about how to romance Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to free Lae’zel and have her join your party in BG3
As we mentioned, you can meet Lae’zel in the very early moments of the game while you’re still on the Nautiloid, and she is one of the early characters who would join your party after you escape the crashed mind flayer ship.
After the prologue, you will find her in a trap, north of the Roadside Cliffs portal where you found Gale. She is captured by tieflings, whom you can persuade to open Lae’zel’s trap so you can deal with her. Then you will have the option to either join her or side with the tieflings. Choose the former, and fight the tieflings, as you’d otherwise have to kill Lae’zel. If you’re playing Paladin, make sure you switch to non-lethal attacks, as killing the innocent tieflings will mean breaking your oath. Once you’ve defeated Lae’zel’s captors, she can join your party.
Another more civilized way to free Lae’zel is to choose the deception dialogue option at the start of the scene. If you successfully deceive the tieflings, they will just leave the area and you’ll only have to shoot Lae’zel’s trap to free her.
How to romance Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3
Now that you have Lae’zel in your party, you can start building your relationship with her. As with every other romanceable character, most actions you take and choices you make while she is in your party will either get her approval or disapproval. Doing things she approves of will take you closer to starting a relationship and unlocking your first romance scene with her.
Agreeing with Lae’zel during dialogue scenes and taking actions that paint you as assertive and belligerent will earn her respect and approval. On the other hand, being soft, avoiding fights and disagreeing with her, will distance her from you and make successful romance more unlikely.
Having both Lae’zel and Shadowheart on your party will often lead to conflicts between the two, and naturally siding with the gith fighter will earn her approval. In most situations, Lae’zel’s approval would come coupled with Shadowheart’s disapproval and the other way around. That’s why you should be careful and strike a good balance between the two, as you want to be on good terms with both.
How to unlock your first romance scene with Lae’zel in BG3
Unlocking saucy scenes with romanceable characters usually happens after you’ve built enough approval and following an important event that progresses the story. You should be able to have your first romance scene with Lae’zel right after completing the Save the Refugees quest at Emerald Grove or even earlier if approval is very high.
If you’ve gained enough of her approval, you will have a conversation with her even before saving the refugees. Pick the “Is it me, or have you been looking at me differently?” line when it appears to shift the dialogue and let her express her feelings for you.
In line with her aggressive personality, Lae’zel will make suggestive comments about your character, to which you’ll have the option to confirm that the attraction is mutual.
The scene is pretty straightforward and you’ll only need to respond with dialogue options that clearly lead to you agreeing to a relationship.
After completing the conversation, you’ll be in a relationship with Lae’zel, and you’ll unlock a romance scene with her the next time you go to your camp and perform a Long Rest. Only a full Long Rest will trigger the scene.
In this one, you may want to let her take the lead and submit. You can also play dominant, which will require you to pass an Intimidation check and roll at least 15. Either way, you’re getting your first saucy scene with Lae’zel.
